Tea West Indies 89 for 1 (Campbell 53*, Chanderpaul 21*, Mahmud 1-25) trail Bangladesh 272 (Shadman 105, Warrican 5-53, Joseph 2-41, Bishop 2-61) by 183 runs
Bad light stopped play ten minutes before the scheduled tea break and thus forced an early tea on the second day in Dhaka. John Campbell and Tagenarine Chanderpaul had added 60 for the second wicket after West Indies lost Brandon King early. West Indies were 89 for 1 and trailing by 183 runs against Bangladesh when the umpires called off play for the session at 2pm local time. Campbell was unbeaten on 53 and Chanderpaul on 21.
West Indies had earlier bowled Bangladesh out for 272, with the hosts giving it away from 213 for 3 at the start of the day.
With the ball, Hasan Mahmud found Brandon King's outside edge in the fifth over, with the substitute wicketkeeper Jaker Ali grabbing the chance.
Campbell had an early life when Nayeem Hasan dropped him at point on 5. The uppish drive went to Nayeem's left, but he couldn't latch on to the straightforward chance. Campbell, though, was otherwise in control, driving the ball fluently against Mahmud, who was moving the ball with the wobble seam.
Chanderpaul found a few early boundaries with the square cut, before Campbell had his second life as Shoriful Islam dropped a return catch when the left-hand batter was on 22.
Campbell struck a four and six off Mehidy Hasan Miraz's consecutive deliveries, raising his sixth half-century.
Bangladesh's only positive in the second morning was Shadman Islam reaching his third Test century. He took just two balls to complete his hundred after being left not out on 99 at stumps on day one. Shadman, however, became debutant left-arm spinner Joshua Bishop's first Test wicket when he was lbw for 105. He struck 11 fours, having faced 234 balls.
Towhid Hridoy lasted just two balls in the morning when he tried to crash Bishop through the covers, missing the full ball from the bowler. Hridoy fell on his overnight score of 42, having gone off on a stretcher on the first evening due to cramps. Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Litton Das offered brief resistance, adding 32 runs for the sixth wicket.
Jomel Warrican ended Mehidy's stay with a delivery that spun right through his bat and pad. Shamar Joseph had Nayeem Hasan and Mahmud caught behind the wicket before Warrican's brace ended the Bangladesh innings. Warrican had Taijul Islam caught behind, before trapping Shoriful Islam lbw for a duck. He finished with 5 for 53, his fourth Test five-for.
