Profile & Biography

Whatever else he does in his life, Hasan Mahmud will forever be remembered for the role he played in Bangladesh's historic first Test victory in Australia, in Darwin in 2026. He took 6 for 55 in the first innings as Australia were dismissed for 198. Bangladesh went on to win by nine wickets after Mahmud took his match tally to 9 for 111.
Mahmud's effectiveness comes from a combination of accuracy, movement and an ability to maintain pressure. Operating around 135kph, he generates enough pace to hurry batters, while his upright seam and repeatable action allow him to extract swing and seam. He can shape deliveries away from right-handers and use late movement to tempt them into drives, but can also bring the ball back sharply.
His breakthrough as a Test bowler came shortly after his debut - in Bangladesh's historic 2024 series win in Pakistan. After helping reduce Pakistan to 16 for 3 in the first Test, he took his maiden Test five-for in the series-clinching victory in the second Test in Rawalpindi. Not only that, he showed impressive defensive technique to hang around for two hours for a ninth-wicket partnership of 69 with Litton Das as Bangladesh recovered from 26 for 6.
Mahmud builds pressure with dot balls before attacking with a wicket-taking delivery, often one crafted to bring the batter forward. His skills also make him a trusted death-overs option in white-ball cricket. In March 2023, he bowled a stingy final two overs against T20 world champions England, conceding only five runs for two wickets. Bangladesh went on to sweep the series 3-0. A couple of months later, in Chelmsford, he kept his calm to defend nine runs in the final over of the third ODI against Ireland to win the series.
Having represented Bangladesh at the 2022 T20 World Cup and 2023 ODI World Cup, Mahmud has become an important member of a new generation of Bangladesh quicks. His career-defining performances in Australia and Pakistan, consistent returns in the BPL, and a superb 2026 Championship stint with Kent bode well for Bangladesh's fast-bowling future.
