James Faulkner

A bowling allrounder who made a career as a white-ball specialist for Australia in the 2010s, Faulkner built a reputation as a finisher with the bat and a multi-skilled operator with the ball.

His cool head under pressure won Australia many matches, most notably the 2015 ODI World Cup final, in which he was the Player of the Match for his 3 for 36, which restricted New Zealand to 183. He took three wickets in a match three times in that tournament.

Against Pakistan at the 2016 T20 World Cup, Faulkner became the first Australian to take a five-wicket haul in a T20 international. His only ODI hundred came in 2013, from No. 7, after India piled up 383 (Rohit Sharma, 209) in the deciding match of a seven-game series, and took Australia to within hailing distance of the target.

At domestic level Faulkner was Tasmania's best player during a period of great success for the state. His breakout season, 2010-11, when he took 36 Sheffield Shield wickets at 17.72, coincided with the side winning the title for the second time, and he followed it up with two 39-wicket seasons in a row, in the second of which Tasmania won the Shield again.

In the BBL, he turned out for Melbourne Stars for seven seasons and then moved to Hobart Hurricanes, where he had his most successful season in the tournament, taking 18 wickets in his 13 games in 2018-19 and forming a crucial pairing with Jofra Archer, who also took 18, in the team's run to the semi-final, their first in seven seasons. Faulkner also played seven seasons of the IPL, for four teams.
