Hilton Cartwright

Hilton Cartwright's career has been shaped as much by timing as by talent. Born in Zimbabwe and raised in Australia, he broke through with Western Australia in 2012-13 and quickly established himself as a promising batting allrounder. A productive 2015-16 was followed by a standout Sheffield Shield campaign in 2016-17, when he made 861 runs at 53.8 and earned a Test debut against Pakistan in Sydney. His efforts that season were recognised with the Bradman Young Cricketer of the Year award.

However, Cartwright's international opportunities proved fleeting. A solitary Test in Bangladesh later in 2017 was followed by a long absence, despite consistent domestic returns. He played key roles in Western Australia's dominant run of three consecutive Sheffield Shield titles from 2021 to 2023, and even matched his career-best tally with another 861-run season in 2024-25, this time at an improved average. Yet, limited bowling impact and competition from more dynamic allrounders, like Mitch Marsh and Cameron Green, curtailed his chances of a recall.

A powerful striker of the ball and an outstanding fielder, Cartwright has also been part of two Big Bash-winning squads with Perth Scorchers, even if his individual contributions in those campaigns have been modest.
