Georgia Adams

A stylish opening batter, Georgia Adams had long been touted as a future England player but her breakthrough arrived in 2020, when she led the run charts in the inaugural Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy to guide Southern Vipers to the title. Adams made a round 500 runs in seven innings, including 80 in the final at Edgbaston, and would have been considered for England's tour of New Zealand but for shoulder surgery the following winter.

The daughter of Chris - the former England Test batter who captained Sussex to County Championship glory in the 2000s - Adams also made her name at Hove, making her county debut in 2009. Appointed stand-in captain for the Women's County Championship game against Yorkshire in 2014, she stepped up, leading her side to victory with her first senior century - 106 off just 111 balls. Adams captained Sussex a number of times since, and with Sarah Taylor on England duty for much of the 2015 T20 season, she largely skippered the county to victory in that year's NatWest T20 Cup.

Having previously played for England U19s, she made her England Academy debut in 2014 against India. Over the following years continued to combine being part of the England Academy squad with studies in Sports Science at Loughborough; and she was part of the Loughborough University team which won the 2015 British Universities Championship final at Lord's.

Adams played for two different sides - the Vipers and Loughborough Lightning - in the Kia Super League without standing out: her 33-ball 50 against Lancashire Thunder in 2019 was her only half-century across four seasons in the competition. But her RHFT form quashed any doubts about her ability, and led to inevitable England talk. "It's always been my dream, my end goal, and if the opportunity does come around, hopefully I'll be ready to take it," she said.
