Profile & Biography

George Linde, a left-arm spinning allrounder from Cape Town's northern suburbs, has built his career on adaptability and persistence. Initially a seam-bowling schoolboy, he switched to spin as a teenager, developing into a bowler who can control the tempo in limited-overs cricket and a batter with a love for hitting sixes.
He progressed through Western Province's ranks to Cape Cobras, where competition limited his red-ball opportunities but sharpened his white-ball skills. He played key roles in domestic successes, including Cobras' 2014-15 T20 title and Western Province's 2015-16 run to the three-day final; he took eight wickets in that game, finishing with 26 in his seven matches in the competition. Linde was also Western Province's leading wicket-taker - 15 at 19.8 - when they reached the One-Day Challenge final in 2022-23, and made key breakthroughs in MI Cape Town's first SA20 title win, in 2025.
He got his first international break in 2019, making his Test debut in Ranchi as an injury replacement for first-choice spinner Keshav Maharaj. His next five-day opportunity came two years later, on the tour of Pakistan, where he picked up a five-for in Rawalpindi despite badly injuring his little left finger.
While the South Africa call-ups were few, Linde remained a consistent performer in domestic cricket. In 2020, he was named the South Africa Cricketers' Association's Most Valuable Player and also won the four-day cricketer of the year title in CSA's annual awards after taking 30 wickets in six matches in the first-class competition. The next year he was adjudged the men's international newcomer of the year.
In 2022 he signed a two-year deal with Kent, and scored a first-class century for them near the start of the season. An impressive domestic T20 season got him another international break, against Pakistan at home in December 2024. He took 4 for 21 and struck at 200 with the bat in the first game, in Durban.
With coach Shukri Conrad preferring allrounders in the shortest format, Linde made the cut for the 2026 T20 World Cup in the subcontinent.
