Profile & Biography

Carlos Brathwaite - remember the name - wrote himself into West Indies history books by hitting four successive sixes to finish off England in the final over of the 2016 T20 World Cup final at Eden Gardens, one of the most iconic finishes in T20 cricket.
A hard-hitting allrounder, he made his international debut in the limited-overs formats in 2011, the year he played his first first-class match, but it was his performances on West Indies' 2015-16 tour of Australia - he scored three fifties in three Tests - that accelerated his rise and helped earn him an IPL contract. Just after he was picked by Delhi Daredevils for Rs 4.2 crore (US$620,000 approx), he provided proof of his value by taking 3 for 23 and smashing 34 off ten balls in that 2016 T20 World Cup final to deliver West Indies their second title.
Brathwaite showed glimpses of his potential on first-class debut, when he took 7 for 90 and made 61 against Trinidad and Tobago; he took 26 wickets in eight matches of the four-day competition that season. Those performances earned him a place on West Indies' tour of Bangladesh, where he made his ODI and T20I debuts, though he then spent more than three years out of the international set-up. He returned on the South Africa tour in early 2015 before making his Test debut in Australia later that year. In the Boxing Day Test at the MCG, he scored 59 on debut from No. 8 to help Darren Bravo repair a collapse, and he followed it with a brisk 69 off 71 balls in Sydney.
Brathwaite became a regular feature of West Indies' white-ball sides over the next few years and captained the T20I team intermittently. One of his most memorable innings after Kolkata came during the 2019 ODI World Cup, when he nearly pulled off an improbable chase against New Zealand with a stunning 101 off 82 balls at Old Trafford before holing out with six runs still needed.
That turned out to be his only international hundred. Opportunities with West Indies dried up after 2019, and Brathwaite turned to franchise leagues, making appearances in the IPL, CPL, PSL, BPL and the Hundred, among others, while also transitioning into broadcast work, as a commentator and presenter.
