Brad Evans

Brad Evans could have chosen hockey, Sevens rugby or javelin, but instead he answered Zimbabwe's prayers for a fast-bowling allrounder.

In his first five years in international cricket, Evans notched up some significant performances, including 3 for 23 in a T20 World Cup win over Australia, an ODI five-for against India, and a Test five-for against Afghanistan.

The son of allrounder Craig Evans, the sports-loving younger Evans moved to the United Kingdom on a scholarship there but returned to Zimbabwe to pursue an international career. The two Evans are the sixth father-son pair to represent Zimbabwe in cricket.

After making his international debut in 2022, Evans made headlines with 5 for 54 in an ODI against India in Harare, which included the wickets of KL Rahul and Shubman Gill. Zimbabwe lost that game, but less than two weeks later, Evans was on the winning side in Townsville, taking 2 for 35 against Australia. A month on he featured in an even more famous victory, picking up 2 for 25 in a one-run win in the T20 World Cup over Pakistan in Perth.

The 2026 T20 World Cup in the subcontinent was particularly successful for Evans. His disciplined line and length got him ten wickets at an economy of 9.18 in six games, including in wins over Sri Lanka and Australia. His variations and yorkers make him a reliable death-overs option in T20s. In 2025, he was Zimbabwe's leading wicket-taker in T20Is, with 30 at an economy of 7.7 from 17 matches. This included spells of 3 for 15 and 3 for 9 in wins over Sri Lanka. In between, he took his maiden Test five-for, in an innings win against Afghanistan in Harare.

Injuries have, at times, held him back. He suffered a stress fracture in his shin bone in 2022. While on the mend from that, he tore his pectoral muscle, which set him back by a further six to eight months
