South Africa batting coach Ashwell Prince and batter Kyle Verreynne have been handed official reprimands and one demerit point each by the ICC for breaching Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct.
The incident occured on the third day of the Cape Town Test against Australia when opener Marques Ackerman got out in South Africa's second innings. Ackerman was caught by Cameron Green off Mitchell Starc and he tried to review the decision, but the umpires ruled that the 15 seconds to review it had lapsed. As Ackerman started to walk off, Prince "shouted repeatedly at the umpires that there was still time left for the appeal to be taken while Verreynne, who was not in the playing XI, asked Ackerman to remain inside the boundary line, which caused a delay in him leaving the field," an ICC release stated.
Prince and Verreynne breached Article 2.8 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to "showing dissent at an Umpire's decision during an International Match." One demerit point has also been added to each of their disciplinary records as these were their first offences in a 24-month period.
The charges on Prince and Verreynne were leveled by on-field umpires Richard Illingworth and Richard Kettleborough, third umpire Chris Gaffaney, and fourth umpire Lubabalo Gcuma. The South African duo admitted their offences and sanctions proposed by match referee Javagal Srinath.
