England Lions 154 for 1 (Tribe 52*, Rew 48*) beat Pakistan Shaheens 152 (Samad 44, Harrison 3-37) by nine wickets
England Lions opened their 50-over series against Pakistan Shaheens with a comprehensive nine-wicket win in Abu Dhabi.
Spin duo Calvin Harrison (3 for 37) and James Coles (2 for 25) claimed half the wickets to bowl Pakistan Shaheens out for 152. Asa Tribe scored an unbeaten half-century as the Lions reached their victory target with 25.4 overs remaining. Victory maintains the Lions' perfect record on tour after they whitewashed the T20 series 3-0.
Pakistan Shaheens lost their last six wickets for 32 runs, kickstarted by Northamptonshire wrist-spinner Harrison when he claimed two wickets in the 29th over. Abdul Samad top-edged a sweep that Coles held onto at midwicket before Ben McKinney reeled in a sharp one-handed catch at slip off left-hander Saad Baig.
All six Lions bowlers claimed a wicket before Coles claimed last man Ahmed Daniyal plumb in front.
Tribe and McKinney then set about making light work of the chase putting on 77 for the first wicket. McKinney struck a couple of towering sixes in his 42 from 41 balls before he was stumped to a ball that kept low.
Tribe and James Rew completed the chase with an unbroken 87-run partnership. Glamorgan batter Tribe finished unbeaten on 52 from 64 balls with Rew 48 not out for 41 balls.
The second of the five-match series is in Abu Dhabi on Sunday.
