The IPL auction for the 2027 season will take place on December 16 in Goa. The day-long mini-auction will be held on the same day as the second ODI between India and Sri Lanka in Bengaluru.
The auction will take place nearly a month after the retention deadline, which the IPL recently informed the franchises will be November 15. Soon after that, the IPL will send the franchises the registered pool of players to shortlist from before the final list is sent out, along with the order of the sets, in the week leading into the auction.
The IPL trade window has seen just two trades since the 2026 season ended. According to the IPL rules, the trade window starts a month after a season ends, stays open up to a week before the auction date, and then continues up until a month before the start of the next season.
In June, Lucknow Super Giants swapped their captain Rishabh Pant to Delhi Capitals (DC) in return for wristspinner Kuldeep Yadav. Recently, DC also traded fast bowler T Natarajan to Sunrisers Hyderabad for uncapped legspinner Zeeshan Ansari.
The IPL has not yet finalised the dates for the 2027 season. But, in 2024, while announcing the dates for the following three seasons, it had chalked out the window between March 14 and May 30. However, in September this year, post the BCCI's AGM, board secretary Devajit Saikia had indicated that the tournament could start in March-end.
This is the last mini-auction in the IPL's current cycle, with a mega auction scheduled ahead of the 2028 season. The next mega auction will kick-off the IPL's next media rights cycle, though the BCCI is yet to release the tender. In 2022, the IPL joined the ivy league of global sport after the media rights were sold for an astronomical sum of INR 48,390.5 crore (US$ 6.2 billion approx.).
