Bangladesh 36 for 2 (Shanto 11*, Hridoy 4*, Greaves 1-1) trail West Indies 356 (Jangoo 133, Wickham 61, Mahmud 6-90) by 320 runs
Bangladesh had nervy moments against the West Indies attack, slumping to 36 for 2 at tea on the second day in Sylhet. Captain Najmul Hossain Shanto and Towhid Hridoy remained unbeaten on 11 and 4 respectively. The visitors kept them in check with a string of maiden overs.
Bangladesh had sent Nayeem Hasan to open the batting after Shadman Islam was stretchered off the ground with an ankle injury. Nayeem inside-edged a boundary in the first over and struggled to adapt to the new role. He had scored a fifty from No.8 in the first Test in Dhaka, but this was the first time he was opening the batting in a Test match. Seales dismissed him for 5 in the fifth over with a rising delivery outside off, which Nayeem guided to slip.
Tanzid, at the other end was twitchy, trying to get on top of the West Indies fast bowlers. He kept playing and missing and even copped a blow on his shoulder. West Indies tied him down with four maidens in a row before Tanzid played a poor shot: charging at Justin Greaves and toe-ending the ball towards cover, where Kevin Wickham dived to his right to complete a good catch.
Bangladesh found joy earlier in the day when Mahmud made good use of the second new ball. He dismissed the centurion Amir Jangoo with a big inswinger that clipped his off bail. Jangoo had been looking confident till that point, having struck couple of boundaries, to add to his eleven fours and two sixes from the first day. He lasted for more than five hours at the crease, bailing West Indies out of trouble with two century partnerships He added 131 for the fourth wicket with Wickham, and 106 for the fifth wicket with Greaves.
Mahmud removed West Indies captain Roston Chase for a golden duck next ball. He got the ball to bend in from well outside off to take Chase's inside edge. Umpire Asif Yaqoob raised his finger next ball, sparking hat-trick celebrations but the batter Joshua Bishop had immediately take the review. Replays showed that he had inside-edged the ball into the front pad.
Bishop struck couple of boundaries, while Greaves reached his half-century, but Mahmud broke their promising stand. He had Bishop stumped for 23; Litton Das only just having come up to the stumps before the delivery. After Mehidy Hasan Miraz opened the account for spinners with Greaves' wicket in the 91st over, Mahmud got his sixth, bowling Shamar Joseph for 16.
Seales and Warrican batted for 11 overs after lunch and the stand ended when Mehidy got the final wicket, trapping Seales lbw.
