Tea West Indies 180 for 4 (Jangoo 76*, Wickham 61, Taskin 2-52) vs Bangladesh
West Indies recovered considerably in the second session against Bangladesh, going to tea on 180 for 4. The recovery came through Amir Jangoo and Kevin Wickham, who put on 131 runs for the fourth wicket with both batters striking half-centuries.
Hasan Mahmud removed Wickham before the tea interval to give Bangladesh respite but not before the debutant recorded 61 off 145 balls with five fours. Jangoo remained unbeaten on 76 at tea, with seven fours and a six, alongside Justin Greaves, who was unbeaten on 16.
Jangoo started the second session with a bang, as he flat-batted Taskin Ahmed through midwicket for a boundary. Wickham brought out the cover drives and pulled fours, both off Taskin, before Jangoo launched Nayeem Hasan for a huge six over midwicket.
Wickham reached his half-century with a single pulled to deep square-leg, while Bangladesh started to try different things around this time. Mahmud dropped Jangoo on 68 off his own bowling, after the left-hander toe-ended a pull shot.
Mahmud continued the short-ball attack, rattling Wickham, while Mehidy tried to bowl with six fielders on the on-side, against both the right and left-handed batters.
Mahmud's ploy worked on Wickham, as he stood still to a full ball, missing it completely with a static drive, bowled for 61. The new man at the crease, Greaves, broke a 45-ball boundary drought with a straight four off Mahmud, before adding one more off the last ball of the session.
West Indies suffered several blows early in the morning, even before the match started. They lost John Campbell and Tagenarine Chanderpaul to viral fever, which required them to send Joshua Da Silva to open the innings for the first time in his Test career.
Taskin made life a little more difficult when he burst through Brandon King, flattening his middle and leg stumps, in the fifth over. Mahmud responded with Kavem Hodge's wicket in the next over, after giving him a work-over leading up to the dismissal. Hodge left the ball on length, as it clipped his off bail. Taskin then removed Da Silva for 12, after he missed an in-ducker from the experienced Bangladesh fast bowler.
Jangoo and Wickham provided stability as the initial movement from the Sylhet pitch was gone. Jangoo drove the ball smartly, while Wickham opened up his boundary haul with two in the session.
