Bangladesh opener Shadman Islam was stretchered off the ground after suffering an ankle injury on the second morning of the second Test against West Indies in Sylhet. Shadman slumped on the ground immediately after he twisted his ankle while fielding, writhing in pain for several minutes near the boundary.
"Shadman suffered a left ankle twist. He is under observation. We will send him for an MRI scan," Bangladesh physio Bayjedul Islam Khan said.
The incident happened in the 78th over when Amir Jangoo nudged a Mehidy Hasan Miraz delivery through fine leg. Shadman chased the ball from slip, but when he tried to pick up the ball, he slipped and, while falling, twisted his ankle.
Replays suggested that there was dew in the outfield, which caused the initial slip. Shadman remained down as the stretcher was carried to the far end of the ground. All the Bangladesh players rushed to his aid, their faces etched with concern.
It remains unclear whether Shadman, who scored a century in the first Test, will take any further part in the match. With West Indies still batting in their first innings, the Test is only in its early stages. If Shadman is ruled out, Bangladesh will have to play the remainder of the match with just 10 players.
On the first day, West Indies reached 235 for 4, having batted for 70 overs. Stumps were called early due to bad light.
