Match Report
That's all from us at Cricinfo today. India go 1-0 up in the three-match series, but it wasn't a walk in the park by any means. A good workout for the hosts and Zimbabwe with plenty of promise too. We'll see you soon for more T20I action.
Do you remember Anil Kumble's last Test wicket of his ten-in-an-innings against Pakistan? Have a crack at it and play today's KNOW YOUR CRICKET
The player-of-the-match is Deepti Sharma for her 49: "Really pleased. I am used to such situations and glad I got to bat in the powerplay. The idea was just to finish the game. If the ball in my radar, I have to play my shots. The WPL has helped me, even the Hundred. If you are mentally ready, you can adapt easily."
Time for the winning captain, Smriti Mandhana: "We won and Niki on her debut showed the composure and Deepti is a legend of the game. Niki and Anushka the way they were running around - big positive for us. Zimbabwe batters played well and adapted well. We planned against them, but watching videos and playing live is a different thing."
Here's the losing captain, Nkomo: "I thought we played well, but was very impressed by our bowlers' fighting spirit. I think we kept everything simple. Stuck to bowling in good line and length. And we had some good fielding too. We need to improve on our dot-ball percentage."
Niki Prasad (not verbatim): I was well prepared. Knew when I walked in that my job was to take the game deep and see it through. That's what I focused on out in the middle. We were just focused on building a partnership. Once we got going, stabilised the innings, we discussed which bowler to target, where we could take calculated risks. Nothing special, really. Just staying calm, playing each ball on its merit. Definitely a lot of dew, which made the ball travel much faster off the bat. The pitch also started slowing down a bit and kept slightly low, but we adapted well to the conditions. Really happy I was able to see the game through and build that crucial partnership with Deepti. This is just the start, and I want to keep playing the same way, contribute more and more.
10.05pm India were made to work much harder than expected for their four-wicket win over Zimbabwe in Raipur, recovering from a remarkable top-order collapse to chase down 115 with 4.2 overs to spare. Smriti Mandhana's first game as India's full-time T20I captain began with a couple of boundaries, but her dismissal triggered a collapse that left India 19 for 4 in the fourth over. Nyasha Gwanzura was at the heart of it, removing Mandhana, Anushka Sharma and Shafali Verma in a sensational spell of offspin, while Michelle Mavunga accounted for Harmanpreet Kaur. Suddenly, Zimbabwe, who had lost all 18 of their T20Is this year, were dreaming of an extraordinary upset.
But Deepti Sharma and debutant Niki Prasad had other ideas. Deepti counterattacked with eight fours in her 49 off 37 balls, while Niki showed impressive composure in her first international innings. Their 79-run partnership took the game away from Zimbabwe, and although Deepti fell one short of her fifty, Niki stayed unbeaten on 39 off 35 balls and fittingly struck the winning boundary. It was quite the baptism by fire for the youngster, who had walked in with India in deep trouble and left having steered them home.
Earlier, Zimbabwe had reached 60 for 1 after ten overs, with Kelis Ndhlovu looking particularly fluent. But India's bowlers squeezed the scoring through the middle overs, with world No. 1 N Shree Charani returning 1 for 14 and Nandani Sharma taking two wickets in the final over to finish with 2 for 11. Ndhlovu made 42, while Sharne Mayers provided some late impetus with an unbeaten 43 to lift Zimbabwe to 114 for 5. Zimbabwe will be left wondering what might have been. Given how badly they rattled India's top order, another 20 or 25 runs could have made this a very different contest.

game, set, match, and it's the debutant who finishes the game with an unbeaten 35-ball 39. This one has been drilled past the bowler's left with a beautiful straight drive. India win by four wickets and with 4.2 overs to spare!

full around leg and tries to flick it. Misses, but umpire does not call it a wide. I suppose that's because the ball was close to leg stump anyway

out for 49, but this innings has been as good as a half-century! Full on leg and Deepti tries to sweep, but it takes a top-edge which does not beat the short fine leg fielder. Taken, but not before Deepti steered this game back in India's favour
