Match Report
7:18pm Celebrations in the English camp and the players walk back to a warm applause at Lord's. A strong challenge from India but 388 was always going to be a steep ask, especially looking at how England batted. Rohit and Gill laid a strong platform with the former India captain allaying doubts over his form with a fantastic hundred, his first at Lord's. Kohli also chipped in with a half-century - the 74 was his highest score at Lord's in international cricket. But once Rohit fell, India started to lag behind in the chase. Curran's change-ups proved hard to tackle for the Indian middle order, while Bethell also chipped in with a crucial spell. Never for once did he let India off the hook, despite being a part-timer
India will have to take a closer look at their bowling attack as well as the team composition. Did India miss their allrounders? Did they err by not playing Kuldeep throughout the tour, more so today at Lord's? Did they lack depth in their batting? Questions galore, you will find answers and analysis on these topics on Cricinfo in the coming days. For now, time for the presentation.
Kannadachi : "a) dots add pressure. Minimize dots b) chasing 200 in 20 is different from T20 target of 200 ( new ball , fresher pitch in T20s) c) Once set, have to ensure bowlers don't settle d) bowling needs to have an X factor "
NIRAJ KUMAR SHA: "somebody commented that difference will the extras. Now it's true. "
Jacob Bethell, Player of the Match: "These games are exciting. Level series, wanted to win it. Great to put my hand up. [Opening the batting] Enjoying it but got lot to learn. Have done it in a different format. We saw what we could do today. We saw Rash is the best legspinner. But the wicket was conducive when there was pace on. So that was my style. [on Sobers] He is a special man. Fortunate to have him part of my journey. Can't thank him enough. It's great to do it in a game that was in memory of him."
Joe Root, Player of the Series: "When you got an opportunity to beat the No. 1 team in the world and bounce back from the first game is the most rewarding thing. Shows our progression and shows we are trending in positive way for the World Cup. The tempo that they played with on that surface was fantastic. Risk-free cricket for a long period. Knew we could explode at the latter stage of the innings with that platrforms. With Jos and Harry coming in with 7-8 overs left. I look at the last two series as... the first game we hadn't got it right but then came back. Real good signs for the group."
Shubman Gill, India captain: "We were right in the game until the 45th over. Gave away a lot of runs in the last three overs. That's where the game went away from us. We thought if we had wickets in hand after 40 overs, we would be in the game. At the same time, we didn't want to be too far behind. After the powerplay we tried to play at 6-6.5 runs per over and chase at 10 in the last ten. [Positives] Almost everyone got runs. In this match particularly, we didn't bowl well in the first powerplay. The way they capitalised never gave us chance to come back. At the death they got too far away from us. [Rohit and Kohli] They have done well over the years in different parts of the world. Pleased with how Rohit batted today. The wicket got slow in the end, wasn't easy to bat, but treat to watch."
Harry Brook, England captain: "Extremely proud. Fought hard, communicated well and manage to escape away with a series win over the world No. 1. Spoken about setting a template. Duckett and Bethell were sensational. Outsdtanding partnership. Rooty doing what Root does. Jos finishing the innings was asesome to watch. I went off for an over and had a chat to Baz. He said why don't you have a crack with Beth, and bowl him for seven or eight overs straight through. It was tough at times but we got the job done."
Brook now collects the trophy and then goes on to pose with his team-mates behind the board that says WINNERS! A superb comeback from England after being 0-1 down in the series. Root asserting his class as batter. Different bowlers stepping up in different stages. Archer being a theatre to watch with the new ball. That middle order also proving its worth. That is all we have from this India tour of the United Kingdom. Hope you have had fun with the coverage as much as we had bringing it to you. On behalf or Abhijato, our scorers Thilak and Vairavan, this is me, Sudarshanan, signing off. Take care, ciao!

Edged and dropped! Sharp chance for Buttler. Once again Arshdeep backs away and Archer bowls it full and straight on off. He gets a tickle and Buttler had to quickly stretch his left hand out while moving to his right

Clevery from Arshdeep. Backs away early but Archer bowls a full toss on middle and leg. Arshdeep just opens the bat face to guide it through short third

Over mid-off now. Arshdeep having some fun. Length ball outside off, he had enough space to free his arms. Wallops it over extra cover. Curran's spell comes to an end, no five-for but certainly quelled the Indian challenge

Woah what a shot from Arshdeep! Length ball angling in to him. He backs away to make room and heaves it over wide mid-on. Mid-on was in the ring so that encouraged him

Catching practice for Jacks. Length ball outside off, 129kph. Axar looks to heave it over long-on. Ends up skying it high. Jacks runs in a fair distance in to his left from long-on and takes it where midwicket would have stood. A fourth wicket for Curran, and what a spell he has bowled today
